What's in store?

Construction of the 10,000 m² warehouse has been underway since late last year and is currently in its finishing stages. The 160 metre-long building (60 metres wide, 12 metres high) will be divided into two zones. One area will have air conditioning and humidity control; the second, air conditioning only.
On the north side of the building, there are five unloading docks and one mega door (6m x 6m). Due to the slope of the access road (max 8%), the warehouse isn't designed for ITER's largest and heaviest components.
Two large tanks (2,000 m³ and 700 m³) are in place to mitigate the risk of fire in this wooded zone.
On the hill behind the ITER platform, workers complete the blacktopping of the logistics platform. Handover of this part of the installation will take place soon.
The architect that designed the ITER Headquarters building, Rudy Ricciotti, is also behind the design of ITER's largest storage warehouse. The two buildings share a few features such as linear cladding (horizontal for the warehouse, vertical for Headquarters) and colour. The ventilation shafts leaving the building serve the HVAC system.
The area around the warehouse will be fenced. The zone is also equipped with a guardhouse (foreground), a parking lot, a storm basin sized for centennial rains (+20%) and a garage for six fork lifts. Activity will commence in the building early next year.
