Walls around the Complex

The first section of basement-level wall (16 metres long, 5.5 metres high and 60 centimetre thick) for the Tokamak Complex goes up on 20 November. The seven-storey Tokamak Complex will have two basement levels and five storeys.
The concrete for the walls of the Tokamak Complex is poured in successive 50-cm layers to allow for vibrating operations. The Diagnostics Building will house the "back-end" systems for ITER diagnostics (electronics and information systems that will receive, record and interpret signals from the operational arena).
In the Hot Cell area, used currently as a logistics platform, the formwork panels are assembled in fours before being transported by crane to the work area.
On the Diagnostics Building basemat, formwork panels are stored prior to installation. The formwork panels are used to frame out the wall segments that are next in line to be poured.
