Times, they are changing
Once upon a time there was a hill covered with trees and bushes. Today, especially when seen from high above, the ITER work site looks like a red scar in the surrounding green landscape. 80 percent of the soil (2,5 million cubic metres !) that has to be moved for the platform carrying the tokamak complex and its adjoining buildings has already been refilled or removed. But nature is already moving back in again: In order to help the vegetation recapture its territory, the first layers of top soil with resident seeds, bacteria and insects, that were saved and stored beside the actual work site, has been replanted.
