On 1st September, Pierre Cortes, who is French, joined ITER as Technical Officer, Occupational Safety. This position reports to the Environment, Safety and Health Section of the Project Office.

For the last 13 years Pierre worked as head of confinement assessment section for IRSN (Institute for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety), the technical support of French Nuclear Safety Authority, near Paris. One of the projects he worked on was the analysis of the ITER file in terms of French nuclear safety regulations prior to the selection of the Cadarache site for building the ITER machine.

Pierre, who is married and has a 7 year old daughter and a 9 year old son, is currently still commuting from Paris every week while he is looking for a place to settle his family.
