Fusion, the nuclear reaction that powers the Sun and the stars, is a promising long-term option for a sustainable, non-carbon-emitting global energy supply.
The ITER Organization, based in southern France, welcomes the best talents who can, together, prepare the way to this new form of energy in a truly multi-cultural working environment.
We offer challenging assignments in a wide range of areas and encourage applications from candidates with all levels of experience. Applications from under-represented ITER Member nations and women candidates are strongly encouraged, as the ITER Organization strongly believes that a diversified, equitable, and inclusive workforce is crucial to solving one of the most complex scientific and engineering projects in the world today.
As the ITER Organization attracts and retains people coming from a vast array of backgrounds and cultures, discrimination and exclusion cannot be tolerated. The ITER Organization believes it is our diverse perspectives and backgrounds that give unique strength and value to the ITER mission, regardless of race, Member nation, gender, religion, status, sexual orientation, or disability. All are welcome and respected at ITER.
ITER Values and Competencies
Each staff member working at ITER is required to maintain a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of the ITER Safety Program, ITER values and the ITER Code of Conduct. Additional guidance and tips on the conduct expected from staff members is provided in the Code's Frequently Asked Questions.
This ambitious scientific project is held to the highest standards, and so are its employees. ITER staff put forward their best work and strive to create a work environment that is defined by the ITER values of collaboration, accountability, respect and excellence (CARE). The CARE values are a framework that guide our actions and define the culture and spirit of the ITER project. We perform our work with care, we care for the well-being of our colleagues, our families and ourselves, and we care about the health of the planet for generations to come. CARE drives our work and our conduct at ITER.
Collaboration: We collaborate with commitment and flexibility using the power of teamwork. With 33 nations working on the ITER project, we collaborate as one seamless team. This clarity and unity of purpose is vital for our success.
Accountability: We are accountable for the whole project. We take responsibility for our specific actions and are transparent in our daily work. Our contributions are made with care and attention to quality and safety, and with the awareness of their impact across the ITER Project.
Respect: We treat each other with respect and dignity at all times, knowing that all of us belong here. We appreciate the value that our multicultural and diverse community brings to the ITER project. We create a space where everyone is welcome and included, where each voice is respected and embraced. Caring for people and the planet is embedded in the fabric of our organization.
Excellence: We are driven by excellence. We are agile and innovative while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and integrity. We carry a responsibility for future generations, but also for the safety and health of all who work on the project.
As a nuclear facility, ITERs core technical competencies of 1) nuclear safety, environment, radioprotection and pressured equipment; 2) occupational health, safety and security, and; 3) quality control and quality assurance processes will be acquired through on-board training at a basic level for all ITER staff members.
Opportunities for professional growth and development
We have an incentives scheme aimed at rewarding high-performing employees for the achievement of their objectives, which are set annually.
We also offer opportunities for professional growth, training and competency development, including specialized induction training for all newcomers.
See the annual ITER Organization Report on Human Resources on this page.
Important Information
ITER Organization staff will apply through the internal SuccessFactors portal
(link on ITER BIZZ, APPS & PORTALS).
Special notice for ITER Organization vacancies: Appointments to a position may be made at a lower grade if the qualifications and professional experience of the selected applicant correspond to that grade; in this case, the duties and responsibilities assigned will be adjusted accordingly. Extensive experience in similar jobs (involving similar work responsibilities) and/or additional training certificates in relevant domains may be considered a reasonable substitute for the required educational degree.
Deadlines are 10 minutes before midnight, Central European Time (GMT+1, or GMT+2 from the last Sunday in March until the last Sunday in October).
Once you have completed your application, you can see the jobs for which you have applied, and track the progress of your application, in the "Job Management" section. You will also receive an automatic email confirming that you applied for a position at the ITER Organization. To avoid this email going to spam, please add the "@email" email address to your safe sender address list.
Candidates who have not been selected following the assessment of the Selection Panel, but who are recognized as having the relevant competencies, may be endorsed by the Director-General to be part of a roster for consideration for positions with similar functions that may arise.
The rostered candidate, with reference to a previous application, may then be considered and selected for another position. If the candidate is informed by the ITER Organization that they have been nominated to participate in another competition, the candidate should ensure that their profile on the ITER application space is up-to-date. (See this link.)
Additional notes:
For the purpose of nuclear safety, each staff member will be asked to implement technical checks of Protection Important Activities as well as their propagation to the entire supply chain. Relevant details and training will be provided during the on-boarding programs. Depending on the nature of the job, some staff members may be required to work outside the ITER Organization's standard working hours, including nights, weekends and public holidays. Also depending on the nature of the job, some staff members may be requested to be part of any of the project/construction teams and to perform other duties in support of the project schedule.
